day after

I want to remember this day...with Mom...Janna,Jenae,Glenn and I took Mom to plan Dad's funeral...sitting around the table thinking of what songs to sing, what poem to put on the card, and even to find out that we could use our own picture on the card and could put one of the farm on it...that was Dad's life..

We also picked out the flowers...Mom wanted roses and we found the perfect one in the book..that had a little of what we all pictured in out minds..

Lunch together at Pizza Ranch..

Order the food for the lunch...

Then on to look for some things we needed to get for the displays of pictures.. We also wanted to get some new dresses for Mom...we did find a very nice one for the funeral and one other....I know we wore Mom out, but she wanted to come along and we were glad to have her...

When we got back to CVM there on Dad's bed was a book plaque with a red rose and a glass cross...brought tears.... For just making a phone call that snowy day last December we sure found the BEST place for the folks.. Everyone there has been so nice and comforting....they say they were glad to care for Dad and just love Mom..thankful for ONE who watches over us and plans where can not.

Goody-bye Daddy...

Last week I came to Iowa for a class reunion..never dreaming that this would be my last visit with my Daddy.

I was planning to go home two different days but the call came that Dad was not well...so Monday I spent the day with Mom and Dad...the nurses and Mom and I got a small smile from him....when I left I told him who I was and that I was telling him good-bye because I was going home the next day. I asked him to tell me bye and he quietly mouthed "bye"...

Tuesday morning the call came early that Dad was not well again and Jenae and I went down to be with him and Mom. We were there for about two hours when he quietly slipped away.

So thankful for a man that could leave family to come to a new country to begin a new life. And who also found a new way of life that was passed on to us.

LOVE you, DADDY

visiting the folks..

I took these pictures at CVM because there were lots and lots of yellow butterflies on the flowers...they are all over around here..

Some of the squares that were made.

Mom drew this dutch windmill by looking at a picture...not bad for 89 years old!!!

I drove to Janna's on Monday and will be here a few days...they are busy with fair projects as well as their produce.

Today I went to Sibley to visit the folks...AND...on the way I got a flat tire...was close to a tire place..so they fixed it up..actually had to get a new tire...I must have hit something sharp..

I spent the afternoon with Mom...we folded laundry...see Chris I still did laundry!!! we also did crafts ... they are making quilt blocks on paper to hang on every one's door...we had tea and snack.. that the residents help make and then we played a game on scrabble....I won!!!

Dad did talk some, but hard to follow anything he says...seemed a little grumpy..they put him to bed and he slept and was sleeping when I left.

Golden Country...

THIS IS WHERE I BELONG...

Kind hearts are the gardens,
Kind thoughts are the roots,
Kind words are the flowers,
Kind deeds are the fruits.

Erin and Emily in the cone flowers.

Thursday Kara's came up...it was spur of the moment...we went to Golden Country...they have lots of things made out of old doors, shovel, wash tubs and whatever you can imagine. Kara and I liked it...the kids not so much. I've been there many times...but this time I noticed they have a "garden walk".... they had flowers and most were marked as to what they were....lots of wild flowers too.
